Mom And Son On Run

We are planning our Disney vacation Aug 11-18, 2012 with a 6 year old girl and 11 year old boy. We've found it very easy to plan activities for our daughter but are struggling with age appropriate special activities for our son. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Hi Julie,

Eleven can be a tricky age to plan something special.  At that tween age, they seem to have outgrown dressing up or character dining (even though they still enjoy it - they just won't admit to it), but they're not quite old enough for Segway Tours or scuba experiences.

If he loves animals, Wild Africa Trek seems like the perfect experience.  It's a privately guided expedition where, among other surprises, guests trek over a rope bridge dangling over crocodiles.  It's open to guests age 8 and older, so it would be a perfect surprise for one of you to do with your son, while someone spends quality time with your daughter.

Parasailing is another adventure he might really enjoy.  He'll get a bird's eye view of the Magic Kingdom as he soars over Seven Seas Lagoon.  For more information, call (407)939-0754.

If he's not too old for dress up, The Pirates League is an awesome experience!  He'll get a pirate makeover complete with a new name and a lesson in swashbuckling.  This would be a great thing to do right before taking the family on the Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage.

How about surf lessons?  Guests over the age of 8 can learn how to surf at Typhoon Lagoon.  The session is done in about 2.5 hours and takes place prior to park opening.  Call (407)939-7529 for more information.

I hope this gives you some ideas for fun things to do with your son.  I'm sure whatever you choose will make his trip magical!

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!
