hi, planning our 1st Disney cruise with grandma, and our 6 yr old boy.do we all need passports to cruise to the Bahamas from port Canaveral? Also, what's your advice, on how far in advance to plan/book/etc a cruise? Size of room for 4 adults, 1kid?

    Hi Nikki!

Thanks for sailing by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your questions. You must be so excited while in the beginning stages of planning for your first Disney Cruise vacation! My son loves cruising with his grandparents!

Currently, Disney Cruise Line allows U.S. citizens who are leaving from a U.S. port (such as Port Canaveral) and returning to that same port to use a Government-issued photo ID along with a state-issued birth certificate as proof of citizenship. For your 6-year old pirate's proof of citizenship, he may bring a state-issued birth certificate. With that being said, Disney Cruise Line strongly suggests that all Guests bring valid passports as proof of citizenship. On the off chance there is an emergency and someone in your family needs to fly from a non-U.S. port of call, such as Nassau, the airlines will require a valid passport for travel. Please make sure to check the Passports & Travel Documentation before setting sail for the most up-to-date information regarding proof of citizenship.

The earlier you book a cruise, the better! You will have the best availability and prices when you book cruises further out in advance. Since you'll be sailing with a total of five buccaneers in your stateroom, I suggest a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah. (On the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy these staterooms typically sleep five with the exception of Category 4E staterooms which only sleep three to four.) Choosing a stateroom is my favorite part of booking a future Disney Cruise! Once you have chosen an itinerary and ship, have fun with the Virtual Deck Plan to see where each stateroom is located!
