Planning for Dec 3-10, 2010 w/ DH and DD4. Contemporary w/tickets & dining is TWICE as much as Pop Century w/same. $$ is tight, but is this a case of "you get what you pay for?" Are the Value rooms just as Disney-magical for 1/2 the cost?

    Hi Wendy,

The value rooms are great, and your little one will probably love the bright, colorful, larger-than-life theming.  However, it is a case of "you get what you pay for," and there are definitely benefits of staying in a deluxe resort.

The location of the Contemporary would be my number one reason for choosing a deluxe resort.  Being on the monorail route makes for easy travel to Magic Kingdom, Epcot and many of the resorts.  Disney transportation does an excellent job, but monorails are much more convenient than buses.  You'll end up spending more time in the parks and less time waiting.  Plus, with a 4 year old, you'll probably want to return to your resort in the afternoon for a mid-day break or nap.

The rooms in deluxe resorts are quite a bit larger than those in the value resorts.  This may not be as important to you since there are only 3 people in your travel party.  Deluxe resorts also have a wider range of restaurants: signature dining, character meals and quick service.  The value resorts have a large food court.

A few other things that you'll find at the Contemporary:  the pool area has a fun slide and there's a water play area as well, small refrigerators are standard in all rooms (they are available for rental at value resorts), there is a large selection of recreational activities - fitness center, basketball, volleyball, water activities, etc., AND fireworks as well as a nightly water pageant can be viewed from your resort.

Do the added amenities justify the cost increase?  That's the toughest decision I have to make when planning our Disney vacations.  Only you know what will work best for your family.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!
