We are only planning a 5 days (4 night) stay, and want to make the most of it. Normally our first day there we spend relaxing poolside but were thinking about heading straight to a park after check in. Can this be done smoothly with small children?

    Hi Amanda,

Thank you so much for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question.

The answer to your question will depend very much on your family and your children.  If you think that heading to a theme park on your first day at Walt Disney World will be too overwhelming for your children, even if you have a limited time at Walt Disney World, I would say do not do it.  If your children are unhappy, it will probably cause you to be more stressed, which is not the recipe for a happy vacation!  You can certainly have a nice day relaxing poolside at your resort for your first day of vacation.

For my family, it is possible to visit a Disney theme park on the first day in Orlando.  My family travels from out of state to Walt Disney World, and even when our daughter was young, we would often visit a Disney theme park on the first day of our vacation.  Even if our resort room was not yet ready, we would leave our luggage with Bell Services and head to a theme park.  We would set the expectation that we would not stay late at the theme park that night, and that we were only going there to experience a few attractions on our first day.  We would then head back to our resort for a reasonable bedtime.

I hope that these thoughts are helpful for you, Amanda.  Have a wonderful time planning your vacation, and please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
