I am planning a 2day trip in Dec with my mom, 1 year old and just turned 5 year old.Gram plans to stay at the resort with the baby.I plan to take my 5 year old to the parks for some birthday fun.Is this a good idea? Are there indoor activities at the hotel?

Hi, Rita! I think you have a great vacation plan with multi-generations. However, with the one-year-old not costing anything in the parks -- no ticket required and the child can eat off an adult's plate with no extra charge -- I encourage you to put Gram in charge of the baby and bring them to the parks with you.  Armed with cell phones, you can go your separate ways at times, but my vote is always to keep the family together as much as possible....especially when birthday celebrations are involved!

Depending on the resort, there are a myriad of activities at the resorts.  The general rule of thumb is that the deluxe resorts have the most options in terms of dining, recreation, activities and amenities.  They are also the most convenient to the parks. The moderate resorts and the value resorts have incrementally less features.

If Gram would like to spend a day with the baby but not in the parks, I recommend a half-day at Downtown Disney which can be accessed by Disney transportation from any resort. (Yet, my first choice would be to have them join you at a park.)  If you would like to write back and give me your specific resort, I can give you more detailed advice.

Thanks for asking a question of the Moms Panel.  I hope you have a wonderful birthday celebration and a magical vacation!
