Want to plan WDW trip for Dec '13 with 3 1/2 y/o son. Plane ride has been the deciding factor on if we'll come. Nervous of him not staying seated, being scared, crying and even that we could be kicked off the plane. Is there any advice you can offer?

    Hi Jamie,

Although I can't tell you for a fact that all will be well, as a mother of three I can tell you that your biggest fears probably won't become a reality.  In all likelihood, your son will be fine for the plane ride.  I'm not sure how far you are flying, but these days, electronic devices can be a lifesaver on plane rides.  Games and movies that you can download and watch during flight keep little ones entertained. Just be sure to remember headphones.  Not everyone wants to hear back to back episodes of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

If you are not into electronics, consider bringing small toys to occupy his time.  Books, stickers, and a favorite stuffed animal are all great things to have.  I used to wrap each item (including snacks) individually and let my kids open something every 15 minutes or so.  Even old toys were a surprise when they could be unwrapped. Plus, it takes up extra time.

As far as staying in his seat.  We all go through that fear.  The buckles are easy to undo.  He just has to know that there are rules in place to keep him safe.  If he's old enough to not unbuckle every time you go on a car ride, he should be fine in a plane.

Bring something chewy like gum, fruit snacks, or even raisins to help with any "ear popping" that may occur because of the change in altitude.

If he cries.  Yes, it can be difficult, but you won't be the first parent that has a crying child on a flight.  In fact, one of the great things about flights to Orlando is that there are a lot of families in your same predicament.  I can't think of a more family friendly first flight experience.  I don't think you'll be kicked off the plane.

Hope this helps. Please take the trip, and have a magical vacation!
