We plan on going to WDW in Aug. w/ my 2 yr old & 4 yr old, both are very light eaters. We're planning on doing one character dining meal. My question is would the dining plan be worth it for us? It seems the plan is 2x the amount of our room.

    Hi Danielle,

What a great question and what is the right answer for one family will be the wrong answer for another, I'll give you my opinion and hopefully that will help you make your decision.

Firstly your 2 year old will not have to pay for the Disney Dining Plan (DDP), they can eat at any buffets free or from other peoples plates whilst at Walt Disney World. The DDP cost for your 4 year old will at the moment be $10.99 and adults (10 and over) will cost $39.99.

What you need to consider is if you will want a sit down table service meal every day, if so you can definitely save money by buying the DDP as often the price of one Table Service meal can be almost as much as one day on the DDP yet you'd still get a quick service meal and a snack that day too. For instance a character dinner at Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom costs about $29 for adults and $14 for children. Another advantage of the DDP is that except for tips and alcoholic drinks all your meals are paid for in advance, which to me is a great bonus!

If your family prefers to grab a quick meal when they can, are light eaters or don't want to be tied down to dining reservations then buying all your meals out of pocket is the way to go.

I really hope that helps and you have a great trip,
