I Plan to visit WDW in October My 12 year old son has a deathly fear of spiders is their anything to stay away from

Your main area of concern is the Animal Kingdom. The It's Tough to Be a Bug attraction is one you absolutely need to stay away from. This 3-D film features all sorts of creepy crawlies, and there is one spectacular moment when a bazillion big hairy spiders drop from the ceiling down toward the audience. These spiders terrify many guests who don't have any particular spider fears at all. You also want to be cautious about walking through the Animal Kingdom in general. Sometimes near the entrance and sometimes near the Pangani Forest Trail or on the path leading to Camp Mickey-Minnie, I have seen docent-like cast members with a tarantula in a box ready to give a lesson on spiders to any passing guests. There may be similar exhibits at the Conservation Station as well.

The other parks are a bit safer. In the Magic Kingdom, you'll want to keep away from the Haunted Mansion. I don't specifically recall spiders there, but there are cobwebs everywhere so there must be a spider or two that I'm forgetting. Also, in the Buzz Lightyear ride, there is spider-ish robot. It doesn't look like a real spider at all, it is orange and green and mechanical looking, but I thought I'd point it out just in case.

In Disney's Hollywood Studios, in the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground has a giant web made of rope. The big insect there is an ant, but again, I mention it in case webs cause problems too.

And since you're traveling in October, I have to point out that really anything could happen vis a vis Halloween. You may encounter plush or rubber spiders in the gift shops. There may be spider themed decor in any Halloween related display. And finally, if you plan on attending Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, you should know that many guests dress up for this event and any of them might be wearing a spider themed costume.

Good luck, and I hope this helps.
