Hello Panel. We will be staying at the Ft. Wilderness cabins. We are concerned about the added expense of the electric carts ($354.00). Is it possible to walk to the different loops without following the streets or it is to wooded?

    Vicky:

I don't know that I would recommend a lot of "off-trail" walking at Fort Wilderness.  Although some loops are less-wooded than others, general courtesy at the campground is not to walk through others' sites, whether that is a cabin or a campsite.  Additionally, some wooded areas have exposed roots from the cypress trees and, depending on what time of the year you may visit, there may be a few water areas hindering safe foot travel.

Our family has stayed at Fort Wilderness with a car, no car, bikes, and electric carts--you can do it all ways without affecting your impression of your vacation.  If you're concerned about the cost of an electric cart, I would not recommend getting one until you've gotten to the fort, seen which loop you're assigned, and gauged the distance of the Outpost from your loop. If you're only going to use the cart for driving to and from your loop to the Outpost for your bus, it may simply be more economical to rent a compact car!

The Outpost, where buses take you to every park except Magic Kingdom, is a comfortable, flat 8- to 10-minute walk from the 2800 cabin loop, so I would recommend requesting that loop and making a note on your reservation that you'd like to be near the Outpost.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!
