I would like to organize a family reunion in DL for a weekend in October- first trip for some of us. What are the crowds like at this time of year? Are there any special events for halloween like at WDW? Trying to decide between GC and DL Hotel. Thoughts?

    Hi, Kim!

I’m glad you’d like to plan a visit to The Happiest Place on Earth for your family! There’s so much magic to discover for Guests of all ages.

Crowds are usually lighter (especially on weekdays) and hotel prices are often lower during the fall. Do keep in mind that park hours may be shorter and there can be more attraction closures due to refurbishment than during times of peak attendance, but it should be easier to experience most of your family’s must-do attractions and shows due to fewer overall Guests visiting the parks.

Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort is from mid-September through October 31, so you should be able to enjoy all of the spooktacular extras it brings! Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a festive event open only to special ticket holders, and in the past it has featured music and dancing, crafts, lots of characters for photo opportunities, the Halloween Screams fireworks spectacular, and many treat stations for the little ones. The best part is that everyone in the family can wear a Halloween costume—even the adults! Disney’s Happiest Haunts Tour takes is an adventure filled with happy haunts and spooky sightings throughout both parks. You’ll experience select attractions and learn spine-tingling tales as you’re lead by your own Tour Guide.

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is the closest to the theme parks, making trips back to the room for a nap or change of clothes easy. The Disneyland Hotel is also a great option because its rooms are incredibly spacious, and I love the classic yet magical room decor. It’s also close to the Monorail station in the Downtown Disney District, so you can hop on for a ride directly into Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park.

I hope this helps, Kim, and that you enjoy a wonderfully pixie-dusted visit to the Disneyland Resort!

    Wishing you magic,
