We would like to see some of the opening rope drop ceremonies while we're at Disney. I am confused, though, about whether these occur before the early opening hours (extra magic), and do they do it AGAIN when the park opens to the general public?

Hi Paula!  The opening ceremonies at Magic Kingdom are really fun to watch!  It is very exciting to see Mickey and Friends welcome you to the park.  The ceremonies will take place right before the park opens...whether it is early for Extra Magic Hours or normal park opening time.  So, if you go on the extra hours day, then you will want to be there before the extra magic hours begin.  Disney will often pick a family out of the crowd to participate in the ceremony, but there are usually lots of families to choose from!  So, you can get there really early and shoot for that, or just 10-15 minutes early if you just want to see the show.  Have a great trip!
