Hazel from Kwa Zulu Natal Asked

Hi, we want to see the opening ceremony in AK and then have breakfast RFC would this work or is it far to go back to RFC? Should we choose another place for light breakfast. Where is the best place to start from in AK, Discovery Island or just go clockwise

Hi, Hazel! If you're there early enough at Animal Kingdom for the Opening Ceremony, my recommendation would be to have a bite of breakfast before you leave your resort and bring a snack to tie you over until lunch. Once you enter AK, you will proceed through the Oasis, over the bridge and in front of the Tree of Life on Discovery Island for the Opening Ceremony. Although the Rain Forest Cafe is just outside the AK entrance and not far away, you are going to be reluctant to "back track." Plus, whenever our family has made the effort to make it to a rope drop, we're always quite eager to hit the attractions, and there are so many there you're going to want to take advantage of that early in the morning!

After the rope drops, I would advise that you go left on Discovery Island toward Africa to hop on the Kilimanjaro Safaris (and possibly grab a Fast Pass for it later, too). Or, if you feel adventuresome that early in the morning, you can go right and experience the more thrilling attractions such as Expedition Everest, Dinosaur, Primeval Whirl and Kali River Rapids. If you have little travelers seeking character meet and greets, there's no better time than the morning to visit Camp Minnie-Mickey and see the first showing of the Festival of the Lion King. (Make sure you grab a Times Guide when you enter the park.)

As far as Rain Forest Cafe, it's an adventure in and of itself so don't miss a chance to dine there maybe for lunch or dinner. However, it's anything but "light." The portions are huge, and the food is yummy. Go hungry and when you have time for a table-service meal with LOTS of atmosphere!

Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation!
