Mom and daughter on Dumbo

We'll have our one year old son and 18 month old nephew with us on our next trip. We know they'll like the interactive queue at Dumbo, but is it true that the play after opens later than the ride does?

Hi, Albey! I think your son and nephew are going to laugh flying above Storybook Circus on the back of their very own Dumbo the Flying Elephant. Those adorable pachyderms have just enough thrill for the little ones to introduce them to the adventurous side of Disney Parks. My daughters always had serious discussions when they were little over which Dumbo was the fastest or flew the highest. I'm not quite sure if they ever agreed on a winning Dumbo, but I can tell you for sure that the interactive queue is a definite winner!

The queue at Dumbo the Flying Elephant is definitely different than those at most other attractions. Instead of waiting in a line, smaller guests can explore the circus-themed play area while others can relax on benches ... or spend the time chasing kids in the climbing areas. Cast Members distribute pagers to waiting guests that will alert them when it is time to pick out a favorite Dumbo and go flying. Early in the morning and often in the evening, guests usually find there is not that much a line that would necessitate a wait in the queue. However, you can still ask to hang out in the play area even though it is not officially "in use." The Cast Members have always welcomed us to do so, and have let me know when a wait has formed and offered me a pager. You should have no problems doing the same, but please know that policies could change at any time.

Thanks for flying by with this question! Be sure to check out the Rider Switch Service so you can discover how you and the other adults in your group can still have "big kid" fun during your trip. Stop by again if you would like more information on how this works.
