One week to go and looking for advice about cameras!I want to bring my nice DSL camera, but am worried about it getting jostled on rides -thoughts on keeping it safe? Also, is it ok to ask cast members to take our photo, to get the whole fam in the shot?

    Hi Christine!

I know exactly what you are worried about! My husband is the DSLR lover in our family and he's always carrying our camera through the parks!

First, it is absolutely OK and, even encouraged, to ask Cast Members and the Photopass photographers to take a photo of you with your camera. We often stop at Photopass locations and have the photographer take a photo with their camera and ours. It's a little insurance to make sure we get the perfect shot! Using Photopass at the parks is free, so go ahead, let them take a picture and you can review it later at home. You may or may not decide to buy a photo or two later!

My husband absolutely recommends investing in a great strap for the camera. He prefers the cross-body type, as he can easily maneuver the camera into the safest location for rides. Many of the more adventurous rides will also have a pouch/bag area where you can place your camera if you need to. The only caveat: I would highly recommend bringing a large ziploc type bag for the water rides - especially Kali River Rapids! There is storage on the ride for your stuff - but it really isn't waterproof.

Last but not least, invest in a few memory cards. Swap them out every day or every other day - that way in a catastrophic event, you'll still have some of your vacation photos. And, be sure your name and cell phone number is on the camera!

Hope this helps! Please don't hesitate to let the Moms Panel know if we can be of more assistance!
