What is one thing most campers at Fort Wilderness wish they brought from home before their vacation? We are packing soon and want to make the most of our trip. Thanks!

Hi Katie! All my life I have loved camping and enjoying the great outdoors under the stars is special. We have now grown to an RV but still love the outdoors and wouldn't mind camping again.

The Fort Wilderness Campsites are some of the best facilities in the country. They offer you a partial sand and concrete pad with hookup to water, electricity, and cable. It is hard to say what is most needed as every family has their rituals when camping. Some like to not be so primitive and even bring a tv along for their stay.  But when packing for a camping trip it is important to bring good light sources whether it be lanterns or flashlights. During the winter months it gets dark early and you want to be safe when working around your site and heading to the comfort station. During the summer months I would strongly suggest you bring one or two small fans to help keep the hot and humid air circulating in the tents and outside.

When it comes to food try to bring as much non perishable food versus things that must be kept cool. Ice can be bought at the comfort stations but Florida is hot and keeping food on ice can be tough. The Trading Post will have basic foods available and there are grocery stores nearby.

If you are coming during a holiday time remember that the "tenters" also love to decorate their sites. Whether its Halloween or Christmas or Easter or any other time have some fun and bring a few things to make your site festive.

Obviously you will want your tent to be comfortable so make sure it is water repellent and you have ample air mattresses for sleeping. If you have a screen tent bring that as well so you can dine without the local insect population wanting to join you. You can keep it as basic as you want or glam it up but whatever you do you are sure to have a magical experience in the campgrounds.
