One more question on AbD China - if we bring ipads/devices, will we be able to charge these items? if we spend alot of time on buses, the kids will want their devices but they won't last the whole trip.how much downtime is there?

    Hi Stacey,

During most of the bus parts of the trip, there will be a local expert guide speaking or some other entertainment, so electronic devices are not a big imperative there. However, there are several internal flights during the trip. You will want to have entertainment for the kids for this portion of your travel. While this is not common, one of our flights was delayed by a few hours. I was glad that my girls all had plenty of movies and games on their iPods when this happened.

There are electric outlets in the hotel rooms. Bring a converter, but there are some outlets configured for US plugs. I have three teens with lots of devices. They tend to fight over power outlets wherever we go, so I typically bring a compact power strip. Belkin makes a nice model.

You may also want to invest in a portable external charger. There are many brands available on Amazon and at electronics stores for less than $100. You can get an iPad charge or a few phone charges from some models.

Another thing to think about -- your sleep schedules may be a bit wonky at the beginning. We found that it took a few days for us all to get synchronized with local time. We found it helpful for all of us to have quiet entertainment to occupy ourselves during the middle of the night when other family members were able to sleep.

I'm so excited for your trip. Let me know what else you have questions about.
