Well it is official, booked for the August 24th 2015 sailing on the Wonder. Of those who have been on the DCL Alaska itinerary in mid to late August, how was the average sea state? As a former Navy man it wont bother me but I am concerned for my wife.

Congratulations on booking your Alaskan Cruise, J -

How exciting for you and your wife! You guys will have an awesome time enjoying the beauty of Alaska on the Disney Wonder.  My family and I sailed to Alaska in mid July. We have friends who had sailed later and earlier than us too. Everyone agreed that it was pretty smooth and calm. I think the most 'swaying' that we felt was in the Aft section - it was around the time that we were pulling out of the port and leaving for the evening. As we were preparing to watch that evening's Broadway-style show at the Buena Vista Theater, we could feel the ship steering. I don't think it bothered anyone, in fact it was actually relaxing. As far as stateroom locations, I always hear that Mid Ship rooms are best. My family and I have always been in that portion of the ship, and we've never had issues.

If you and your wife want to take a walk around the ship, just to get a better feel of it -- make sure to check out Deck 4's walking-running-jogging path. It'll take you all around the ship and offers unobstructed views and sort of a self adventure of its own. It's a great morning walk - just bundle up! Since you were in the Navy, you'll likely see a lot of familiar items on the deck that the crew members have to work with. We actually marveled at the ship's anchors that you can see (not touch) from the path. Gargantuan! On the day that you cruise through Tracy Arm, the Captain steers the ship and gets the Disney Wonder amazingly close to a couple of water falls - and turns the whole ship around! I'm not sure if the same route will be taken on your cruise -- but that  maneuver had us frozen for at least half an hour as we enjoyed the 360 degree view! Chip and Dale happened to walk by the deck, and we even took pictures with them - they are the cutest critters!

Have fun planning for your magical voyage, J!
