My niece has sensory issues and will not go into any bathrooms where the toilets flush automatically. Please advise me as to which, if any, within Disneyland, have only manual flushes. I have found that they are few and far between there. Thank you!

    Hello Rachel!

Thanks so much for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel. I hope you are having a magical week.

Let me first start off my saying I feel your pain. My youngest is autistic with a lot of sensory issues and also is afraid of being “surprised” by the automatic flushing. While unfortunately I don’t have a map or list of where there are manually flushing toilets within Disneyland Resort, I can share with you a few tips that have helped us nearly overcome my son’s fear.

Noise canceling headphones have been our sensory pixie dust! We have the Peltor Junior brand and he wears them all throughout the parks. He can still hear conversations, but they really help to dull loud noises and block out crowd noises and other distractions. He absolutely loves them. Wearing them into the restrooms has helped minimize his reactions to a loud or unexpected flush.

The other thing that has helped is a LOT of warning and saying what is going to happen over and over while in the restroom. I tell him the loud noise is coming multiple times when we are in the restroom, the stall, and even afterwards tell him how proud I am that he handled it so well. I feel that a lot of prep really helps reduce his anxiety.

One last thing Walt Disney World panelist Ana suggested was to place a sticky paper over the sensor. That helps trick the sensor and you can wait until your niece is out of the stall to flush.

I hope this helps and let us know if you need anything else as you plan your visit!

    See you real soon!
