Next year will be my first trip with my son who will then be 4. He is high-functioning autistic and has a very difficult time staying still and waiting in general. I read somewhere there are special services for kids that need them. What do those entail?

    Hello, Ashley!

As a family with a son with special needs, we have found Disney Parks strives to provide resources for families so they can have a magical time in the theme parks.

First, take a look at this booklet put together by the folks at Disney Parks: A Resource for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder. In this booklet, you find information about park accessibility, transportation, a helpful section of frequently asked questions and a sensory information chart for attractions at the four theme parks. This is a great planning resource.

With your theme park admission, you have a complimentary FastPass+ Service. You can schedule three FastPass+ experiences per day prior to your visit. Be sure to link your theme park tickets to your My Disney Experience account to begin scheduling 30-60 days before arrival. FastPass+ helps my son to have a plan before we arrive and book experiences according to our schedule.

Once you arrive, you can request the Disability Access Service (DAS) for your son at any theme park Guest Relations. The DAS provides a virtual wait time to allow the recipient (and 5 Guests) alternate wait experience. Guests are welcome to wait in a quiet area, experience another attraction or do a little shopping. When it is time to return, Guests will have a limited wait time before experiencing the attraction. You can use DAS in tandem with FastPass+ so you and your family can focus on all the magical moments you are creating!

I hope you find this information helpful. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
