I am newly married and will have the unique pleasure of bringing my mother-in law to Disney for her first visit next week. It will be just us (no husbands). Any unique ideas on good experiences for adult bonding? We will be visiting for two days; MK and HS

    Hi Megan,

Congratulations on your new marriage! It's lovely for you to bring your mother-in-law to Walt Disney World as a bonding experience. I have spent some really nice time with my own mother in the parks, and I think that there are lots of ways for you to enjoy the experience.

When we are in the parks with only each other, my mom and I really like going to a table service meal and taking our time at the restaurant. At Disney's Hollywood Studios, I recommend the Hollywood Brown Derby. At Magic Kingdom Park, I always enjoy a nice meal at Tony's Town Square. It is a little more family-oriented, but you and your mother-in-law could enjoy a nice meal there together.

Being alone with another adult in the theme parks is a great time to experience attractions that you may not otherwise get to experience. If your mother-in-law and you are both thrill ride lovers, it will be a great time to ride Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror in Disney's Hollywood Studios. If you prefer more classic rides, you could go to Peter Pan's Flight together in Magic Kingdom Park. Just be sure to check that you both want to experience whatever you choose.

Don't forget shopping! There are really interesting stores on Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom Park and on Hollywood Boulevard in Disney's Hollywood Studios. Without anyone else along, you and your mother-in- law can take your time exploring the unique merchandise available in the shops.

Overall, I think that the most important thing is to figure out what appeals to the two of you the most - is it dining, attractions, shopping, or something else? Then build your days around whatever you are both interested in, and really take it at a nice slow pace. The conversations that you have those days will be so special. I hope this helps in your planning, Megan. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions!
