Hello New Moms!?about DDP. Had basic plan Nov 08 as did lots of character meals. Thinking about QS and paying out of pocket if kids(10,8,7)want to dine w/characters in 2010.Is it worth going "basic" or "deluxe" just in case kids decide

    Paula:

If I were in your shoes, I would go with the Basic Dining Plan over the Quick Service or Deluxe. The Deluxe is A LOT of food if you have children, but is a benefit if you're going to use a lot of two table service credits for dinner shows. Additionally, these meals require pre-planning and commitment not to mention reservations. It doesn't sound like that's your game plan. So scratch deluxe. It's down to Basic vs. Quick Service.

The price per child (3-9) for Basic per night is $10.99 vs. $8.99 on Quick Service--both of these prices include the tax. The lunch buffet alone at Crystal Palace is $11.99 plus tax for children as of this month. So even if your children weren't into Pooh and his friends, the economics of it is worth considering....

The adult side is another thing. That same lunch buffet is $20.99 plus tax for adults out-of-pocket. The Basic Dining Plan is $39.99 per night which includes tax but an 18% gratuity will be added for Table Service meals. I find that the Basic Plan is of greatest value for adults who are eating at table service restaurants from a menu and children when they choose buffets.

Regardless of the plan you choose, the biggest advantage the dining plans give families is that it helps you stay within a budget.
