Do I need to worry about not getting admission to the Magic Kingdom at night on New Year's Eve due to capacity? Does this happen? We have 8:45 reservation at the Grand Floridian. Not sure if I should take an early dinner instead.

    Hey Tali!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. Thank you for sending us your excellent question about New Year’s Eve at Walt Disney World Resort!

Tali, there are not many days per year where Walt Disney World Resort theme parks are closed in phases due to capacity, but New Year’s Eve is definitely one of them. Please note, Disney Resort hotel Guests are guaranteed access to a Walt Disney World Resort theme park, however this may not be the theme park of their choice.

Magic Kingdom Park is normally the first to begin restricting Guest access on New Year’s Eve. Many Guests, including myself, arrive as early as park opening! Guests not staying at a Disney Resort hotel normally begin being turned away shortly after park opening. Capacity-based closures occur in phases. This aids in not having to completely close the theme park, but I do not suggest trying to have dinner at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and then heading over to Magic Kingdom Park. Depending on your Walt Disney World Resort theme park ticket type and whether or not you have an in-park dining reservation, you may not get back into Magic Kingdom Park. I suggest having dinner within the park itself, rather than at a Disney Resort hotel.

Tali, I have great news! In order to allow more Guests to experience the unforgettable New Year’s Eve fireworks show, Magic Kingdom Park actually runs its celebration on both December 30 and December 31. Identical fireworks will be shown both nights just before the stroke of midnight.

I hope this has helped answer your question. If you have any additional questions before, during or after your upcoming vacation please visit the Disney Parks Moms Panel again.

    Wishing you a Magical Celebration,
