Do you still need lanyards in the park and if so what are they used for? Tips for purchase?

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Ryan!

Many guests used to wear Disney lanyards around the Walt Disney World Resort to keep their park tickets and FastPasses handy. However, since the parks now use Disney MagicBands, you really shouldn't need a lanyard to store anything. I love that I can simply tap it to use my park ticket, FastPass+, and purchase food or souvenirs which are charged to my resort room. It couldn't be easier!

That being said, my kids still love to wear Disney lanyards because that's where they store and display their Disney Trading Pins. Did you know that if you purchase Disney Trading Pins, they can be traded with any Cast Member around the parks that is wearing a lanyard or has a board displaying pins? Pin Trading is a huge part of every Disney vacation for my family. My kids usually are on the hunt for a specific type of pin each trip. Last time, my daughter was collecting any Disney Tsum Tsum pin and my son was trying to complete a pirates collection. We are already discussing the pins they'll be hunting for later this fall when we head back to Walt Disney World. They keep their favorites in the resort room and put the pins on their lanyard each morning that they're willing to trade, and off we go!

Lanyards are available to purchase at most gift shops throughout the resorts and parks, but if you want to get one before you leave home, has a nice selection, as does your local Disney Store. Pins are available in those spots too if you want to grab a starter set to trade from!

Have fun on your Disney adventure, Ryan!
