I need help planning my son’s 21st birthday at WDW the week of May 10th. We are a party of 5 (over 21 years of age) staying at Saratoga Springs. Do you have any recommendations for celebrating a 21st birthday? He enjoys Star Wars and cars.

Hi there Denise! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. Thanks for bringing your question to us - I'd be happy to help you plan your son's birthday celebration.

Wow 21 years old! What a big celebration for your family. I think a birthday trip should include at least one special meal, a few of your son's favorite things, and of course - cake!

First, let's talk about meals. Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa will be the perfect place for your vacation as it puts you in close proximity to Disney Springs. My family enjoys many dining options at Disney Springs, and there are quite a few that I think are special enough for a celebratory meal. I recommend considering The BOATHOUSE® Restaurant, Raglan Road™ Irish Pub and Restaurant, and Chef Art Smith's Homecomin'. I think your family would have a fabulous time at all of these restaurants. Be sure to tell your server that you are celebrating a special occasion. You never know what kind of pixie-dust you may receive!

For a truly memorable evening, my favorite restaurant in Walt Disney World is the California Grill at Disney's Contemporary Resort. You can't beat dinner with a view of Happily Ever After fireworks! Additionally, the newly opened Topolino's Terrace - Flavors of the Riviera at Disney's Riviera Resort is certainly celebration-worthy as well.

Since you mentioned your son is a Star Wars fan, I recommend giving him the gift of building his own lightsaber or droid in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Advanced reservations are available for Savi's Workshop - Handbuilt Lightsabers and the Droid Depot. Why not surprise him with a reservation here? I know friends of all ages who have enjoyed these experiences.

Finally, every birthday celebration needs cake! I suggest contacting Disney Floral & Gifts to set up an In-Room Celebration for your arrival, and later having a personalized cake delivered to your resort room during your vacation. We had a Mickey Mouse Celebration cake brought to our resort room recently for my father in-law's birthday. The cake was delicious and came with candles and extra silverware. We were able to keep leftovers in our resort refrigerator and enjoy it all week!

Denise, I am so excited just thinking about your son's birthday celebration at the Most Magical Place on Earth. My son is still just a little boy, but I hope that someday he will want to spend his 21st birthday with me in our favorite vacation destination.

    Wishing you magic and memories,
    Betsy
