Mu husband and I are taking our kids Age 7 & 5 to disney in June 2010 but are so confused by all the options. Dining Packages, Character Dining, Hopper passes, etc. Any help would be greatful!

Hi Dawn - it can definitely be confusing - that's what we are here for!

First, you should decide how many days you want to visit for.  Once you determine what time you'll arrive and leave, you can figure out how many days you'll need on your ticket.  In addition to the number of days, you'll also need to decide if you want to add the park hopper option (which will allow you to visit more than one park per day), the no expiration option, and the water parks and more option.

I recommend getting the park hopper option, because that will provide you with plenty of flexibility in each day.  By having park hoppers, you can dine in a different park from the one you visit all day.  Consider the water park option only if you plan to visit a water park at least once.  If you only purchase the number of days you'll use on your trip, it's not worth adding the no expiration option.

Next, decide if you want to add a dining plan.  My family always gets the standard option, with one table service credit, one snack credit, and one quick service credit per person per day.  If you are thinking of eating at least one table service meal on average per day, I'd recommend that option.  Other dining plan options are the quick service plan (best for those who only want to eat at quick service places), and the deluxe dining plan (best for those who want to eat at least two table service meals per day).

You should consider reading a guidebook or two to get an idea of which attractions and restaurants will most appeal to you.  I recommend the Passporter and the Complete Idiot's Guide to Walt Disney World.

Once you decide where you want to eat, make reservations at soon as possible.  Popular restaurants do fill up well in advance.

I hope that helps!  Have a great vacation!
