My mother recently had knee replacement surgery. She's doing well and walking un-aided, but I worry that she may need to use a wheelchair onboard the Dream or at Castaway Cay as she's still unsteady on her feet. Are there wheelchairs onboard she ca

    Ahoy, Maureen -

Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel and logging in a question. I'm glad to hear that your mother is recuperating and healing well from her recent surgery. There's way too many fun things to do out there, and it sounds like she does not want to miss out on anything - Yay, Mom!

I am hoping that she will not need a wheelchair while on your vacation... and she goes without any pain or discomfort. In any case, while you are onboard, there are limited wheelchairs that are available from the ship's medical department on the lower deck. They are only meant for emergencies. If you anticipate the need for a wheelchair for the entire duration of your voyage, then you will need to arrange for that. If you think she might need special items to help her in her stateroom or bathroom (shower stool, raised toilet seat, etc.), you can also review the different available items that you can request for in advance here. When you dock at Castaway Cay, there are complimentary sand wheelchairs available on the island on a first come first served basis.

Wishing your family a magical voyage with Captain Mickey, Maureen.

    Have lots of fun!
