My mother who will be in a motorized wheelchair during our stay. We are considering staying at the Wilderness Lodge villas. Do the boats to Magic Kingdom accommodate electric wheelchairs without her having to stand up and get out of it? Thank you!

    Hi Joann!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! My family loves the atmosphere at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. The rustic decor and cabin-in-the-woods feel is a nice change of pace from the busy theme parks. The boat launch to the Magic Kingdom was a big part of the appeal to us, and my boys think of the boat as another Disney attraction!

There are usually two boats that serve Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. The motor launch is a smaller boat, and all strollers and wheelchairs must be folded to board. Electronic Conveyance Vehicles, known as ECV’s cannot be accommodated on this type of boat. The second type of boat, the motor cruiser, is much larger, and as long as water levels are normal, ECV’s, strollers and wheelchairs can be accommodated. The issue will be that if the first boat that arrives is a motor launch, you’ll have to wait for the motor cruiser to arrive. Additionally, while it is the norm to have one of each, it is possible that the motor cruiser might not be available on a given day and cannot be guaranteed. Busses are always available to all the parks from Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and your mother could be easily accommodated on a bus.

If you are open to other resorts, Disney’s Bay Lake Tower may be a great option. There is a walking path directly to the Magic Kingdom, as well as Monorail Transportation to both the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Busses would still be needed to visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, but convenient access to two theme parks is a definite plus to Bay Lake Tower. The Monorail also means you can easily visit restaurants and amenities at both Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

I hope this information is helpful Joann! Let me know if you have any additional questions I can help you with as you plan your upcoming vacation.

    Wishing you Membership Magic!
