Hi Mona Leigh, We are considering buying DVC and wonder how important our Home Resort is. How far ahead will we have to book during low seasons to ensure we get the resort we want for that trip?

    Hi Rhonda,

My family's home resort is Disney's BoardWalk Villas. We chose it because we love the theme, the location, and the activities there.

You do need to consider how far ahead you can book when choosing a home resort, especially if you think that you'll want to stay at other Disney Vacation Club resorts. You will be able to book 11 months ahead of your check-in date at your home resort, and seven months ahead at any other Disney Vacation Club Resort. It does make sense to choose the resort that you think you will want to stay at the most as your home resort.

That said, over the years I have been able to stay at all of the Disney Vacation Club resorts at Walt Disney World. Many of these were in the less crowded times of year. I imagine that it would be very hard to book a villa at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort between Christmas and New Year's Day if it was not your home resort. However, my family and I have enjoyed stays over the past couple of years at Bay Lake Tower in August and June. I have not always been able to get into my first choice of resort for a particular vacation; however, as a Disney Vacation Club Member I know that I can come back again and again and try for that resort on another vacation.

Finally, when you make a reservation, you are able to add a waitlist request to your reservation. This means that if you would like to stay at Disney's Beach Club Villas, but there is a night or two of you vacation that is not available, you can put yourself on a waitlist for that resort. If the accommodations you want become available, Disney Vacation Club cast members will automatically move your reservation to the resort for which you are on the waitlist.

I hope that this information is helpful, Rhonda. If you do decide to become a Disney Vacation Club Member, it will be truly magical the first time you hear those words, "Welcome Home!"
