Mom & 6 yr old daughter, first trip. Have the DDP and made reservations for the Aloha Loau. I am now hearing different things about the Hoop-Dee-Doo Review and Mickey's BBQ. If you were doing one dinner show which would you recommend?

    Hi Heather,

How great that you've planned a mom and daughter trip.  Here are my thoughts on the 3 shows:
    • Hoop Dee Doo Musical Review - The show takes place at a hall inside Fort Wilderness Campground.  It's a musical review that includes lots of slap-stick comedy, country western singers, comedians and dancers.  The food includes chicken, ribs, mashed potatoes, salad, bread, and strawberry shortcake.  The show is hilarious, very participative, and a great deal of fun. It generally gets rave reviews and lots of repeat customers!
    • Mickey's Backyard BBQ - this is an outdoor event hosted in a well-covered pavilion at Fort Wilderness.  I have two small children, and it is, by far, their favorite dinner show.  The evening features picnic-style food (ribs, hot dogs, beans, baked chicken, corn on the cob, watermelon, ice cream, beer, wine lemonade and iced tea)  During the "show" country music plays on stage and Mickey, Minnie, Chip & Dale and others come out in their western gear and dance with the audience.  We've found that this event offers unprecedented access to the characters.  The kids can dance with them as long as their legs will carry them.  My tip here is to arrive early and eat fast, because once the show starts, you'll have a hard time keeping your princess in her seat!
    • Spirit of Aloha Show - this traditional luau is held at the aptly named "Luau Cove" at the Polynesian resort.  It features salad, pork, chicken, rice, vegetables, pineapple-coconut bread, beer, wine, soft drinks, a volcano dessert and a "typical" kids menu.  The show features talented hula dancers and a  flame thrower/dancer that is amazing.  The "fire guy" had my kids in awe.  There is a cute underlying story-line and an MC that keeps the audience entertained.

I think all are great choices.  Hopefully some of my thoughts will help you and your daughter make the right pick for your vacation!
