Three Generations Aboard Ship

I am a mom of 2 boys and we will be going on the Disney Cruise October 2011! I was wondering if there was any advice you could give me about traveling and doing the cruise with the little ones! Their ages will be 2 (almost 3) and 11 months old when we go.

    Hi, Michelle!

For any child, the best vacation happens when mommy is happy! Therefore, my best advice for you and your little guys is to plan on lots of rest for everyone and make time for yourself. So many moms and dads have high expectations for vacation only to experience over-scheduling and complete exhaustion. Remember your limitations and don't try to "conquer" every event and activity.

Go online at DisneyCruise.com and reserve spots for your children for the ship's nursery, and consider times where you might want to focus your attention on one child at a time. Also, schedule some time for you to recharge your batteries whether it's at the spa, enjoying adult dining or clubs or simply enjoying some quiet time alone. I love afternoon napping on a Disney ship with the verandah door open wide!

You will have some great family time, and there will be ample opportunity to see and do things on the ship together. My advice is to focus on character greetings and other activities suited for young families. You may even want to bring your boys to the Oceaneer's Club and Lab when you look on the Personal Navigator and find some things you might enjoy as a family.

If your children can sit for about an hour, they may be enchanted by the live shows performed nightly -- they are chocked full of characters and musical numbers. I recommend families with small children choose the earlier show time and feed the kids an early quick-service meal (or room service). Then, they'll be fresh for the show, and they can enjoy playing (or sleeping) in the nursery while the adults enjoy a meal alone or the nightclubs.

I hope this helps you. Please let me know if you think of other questions for me. Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation.

    Bon voyage!
