My mom ankle surgeries is worried about all the walking. She is considering renting a scooter. Does she need to request a handicap room or ground floor at Riverside? elevators? How does this work?

    Hi Beth!
My mom also had limited mobility when we visited Walt Disney World and she was concerned about getting around the parks and resorts, but she was pleasantly surprised at how accommodating Walt Disney World is for guests with special needs.

You will definitely want to rent an Electric Conveyance Vehicle (ECV). Check out the ECV Rentals page for details. You can rent them at the parks or Disney Springs and it is well worth the money! My mom was a bit hesitant at first, but once she rented one, she was so happy. She could easily get around the parks and the attractions are extremely accommodating to guests on ECVs. There are also third party companies that rent the ECVs and Disney has a list of the preferred vendors, one of which is Best Price Mobility. You can rent one for the day or for the full length of your stay.

You can also select an "Accessible Room" when you book your Walt Disney World vacation online. Check out more information on how to navigate the parks, Disney transportation and resorts for guests with disabilities for more information. By booking an accessible room, it will ensure that your accommodations will meet your mom's needs.

I hope you have a magical vacation!

    Magically,
    Stacy
