When meeting characters, how much time will they spend with a child? Are they rushed through? My daughter is 3 and especially excited about meeting her princesses.

And I'm sure the princesses are excited to meet her!

The character handlers need to balance each guest's desire for quality character time with the sheer quantity of guests that want to meet the characters. The face characters (those, like the princesses, that can talk to you) do tend to spend a bit more time with each guest. They will greet your daughter, ask her her name, engage in a bit of polite chit chat, sign an autograph, and pose for a photo or two. Your daughter won't be rushed through, but If this starts to take longer than about two minutes, the other guests in line are going to get mighty restless. For meeting the traditional "costumed" characters, other guests are going to start to huff and puff if you take longer than about a minute with your autograph and photo. You can get back in line as many times as you want, but you do have to be respectful of other guests who are waiting.

Surprises do sometimes happen. On my most recent trip to WDW (February 2008), we were in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom. We passed Stitch just standing there reading a sign. He was alone with no one to play with. So he engaged my girls in a quick game of hide and seek. On another trip, Baloo played catch with one of my daughters.

Our longest time ever with a character was when Pluto happened to be riding on the boat from the Magic Kingdom to the Transportation and Ticket Center. There were only three families on the boat, including us, so we had a full 15 minutes basically alone with Pluto. He taught the kids a dance. He posed for photos with all the adults. We had a great time.

So, hope for something special, but realistically expect to spend about two minutes at a time with a character, both in the regular greeting lines and at the character meals in the restaurants.
