Hi Margaret, I have 3 boys the same age as yours. We are visiting WDW for the first time in May. Do you have any tips for keeping everyone in the family happy as far as rides/attractions go? What are your boys' favorites?

    Hi Lisa,

How great-your boys' first WDW trip. One of the things that makes Disney World such a great vacation spot is that there is such a variety of things to do that we can easily find something that makes everyone in our family happy.

The first thing I suggest is to get a good planning book or two. There are many, but I really enjoy Birnbaum's Official Guide (there is an edition for kids too) and Passporter's Walt Disney World Guide. Read the books with your boys and discuss what they would like to do. Be sure to visit www.waltdisneyworld.com and let them visit the site with you. There are great links within the site that explains the parks, the parades and shows offered and of course the rides. We find that our boys are the happiest when they can help plan the trip. Make a checklist for each day  showing the top two or three things that each member of your family would like to do. Remember when planning, to take into consideration any height requirements for rides and each child's personality.  My two youngest boys are quite daring but my oldest has a fear of heights. I try and make sure that we alternate what we are doing so one child is not waiting hours to do one of his favorites.

Some of my daredevils' favorites are Expedition Everest, Primeval Whirl and Mission Space. My oldest loves Kilimanjaro Safaris, Test Track and Dinosaur and family favorites include the new Toy Story Midway Mania and the classic Pirates of the Caribbean.

Remember when planning to avoid overloading your schedule as this makes for exhausted cranky children which means no one is having fun. Pencil in time everyday for swimming or ice cream eating or whatever your family enjoys and remember to stop and enjoy the moment. There is only one first trip so take time to soak it all in.

    Enjoy the magic!
