We'll be in Malta on a Sunday on our cruise starting at the end of June. I want to attend Catholic Mass but the tour description says the churches are closed to tours, it's a religious holiday. Any tips? Haven't gotten replies from Malta.

Welcome back, Susan! I am so excited for you to be taking this amazing sailing aboard the Magic, but even more excited for you that you'll be in Malta on a Sunday and able to attend Mass there. My family is Catholic as well and I would love to attend Mass in Malta, as my grandfather is a Knight of Malta, which is one of the few Catholic orders established in the Middle Ages that is still active today. Unfortunately, the Co-Cathedral of the Knights of Malta will be closed on Sundays, so you won't be able to tour that. However, you should be able to attend a Sunday Mass at one of a number of Catholic parishes in the area.

I checked my favorite mass locator online, masstimes.org, and found that there are quite a few Catholic churches right around the port area. many of these list English Masses, so I'd suggest checking out that site and searching by "Valletta, Malta", which is the port area. You'll see the churches in a list, including their English Mass times. Then, you can click on individual church websites for more details, but be prepared, many of the websites are not in English. You might print a list of the churches with the map from the site and bring it with you when you disembark the Magic. Then, you'll be prepared to walk or take a taxi to whichever church offers a Mass at the best time for your family that day.

Keep in mind that in some churches there, ladies might be required to have their shoulders covered, and no shorts, flip flops or casual clothes like that, so dress conservatively and bring a wrap for your shoulders just in case. I did see one one site that that particular church has wraps available at the doors. I don't know if all of the churches require this, but better to be prepared just in case.

Have an amazing cruise and visit to Malta, Susan! Let me know if I can help with any other questions before you set sail!
