I would love for my 4 year old daughter to do the Wonderland Tea Party, however I am not comfortable leaving her with strangers at such a young age.Are adults allowed to "sit on the sidelines" or are they required to leave?

Actually, The Wonderland Tea Party is a closed doors event and a sign saying “no peeking” is hung on the doors. Parents are given pagers and you can certainly hang around nearby but they make a big deal about it being a kids only event.  They even have the kids wave good-bye as the Cast Members “kick out” the parents. The kids giggle and enjoy the antics (while the parents struggle to tear themselves away.)

I recommend that you call the restaurant at 407-939-3463 and inquire before booking your Advance Dining Reservation. Perhaps they can suggest having you sit somewhere inconspicuous so the children still think it is a “kids only” zone.

Part of the party includes surprises given to the parents when they return. Also, you will be given a keepsake photo when you pick up your child.

Of course, if you feel uncomfortable you could wait until she’s a bit older. You know your daughter (and yourself) best and how she would respond to staying at the event by herself. The party is held at the beautiful 1900 Park Fare restaurant. There is a bench (where Mary Poppins sits in the mornings) right outside the doors which would be convenient for a Mom that wants to keep an eye on things. I will forewarn you that the kids may be instructed to yell “no peeking” if they catch any curious parents.

From my personal experience, I’ve found the kid activities at the Grand Floridian to be well-staffed with safety and security measures firmly (and thoughtfully) in place. I have to say that I’ve never heard of a parent (no matter how protective they were) of being disappointed by these activities.

Nonetheless, you won’t be able to enjoy your vacation, if you are too worried. So, call the restaurant and inquire or perhaps participate in a family activity such as the Family Magic Tour in the Magic Kingdom.

    Best wishes!
