I love this panel. I have basic dining package, and have decided on the character dining for my girls (3 & 11) however, they are picky eaters. Would you recommend some dining choices with simple menus, that are still a fun experience?

Two of my favorite restaurants that have a fun atmosphere and fairly simple food are both in Disney's Hollywood Studios: the Sci-Fi Dine-In and the 50s Prime Time Cafe.

The Sci-Fi has a fairly basic menu of sandwiches and salads. The children's menu has classic kid favorites like chicken nuggets. You can turn up the fun factor on any of the beverages at this restaurant by adding a glo-cube to the drink. (Kids get to choose the color.) You can even get water to "glow in the dark." The Sci-Fi is set up like an old-time drive-in theater. Instead of tables, you are seated in faux cars. The lights are dim, and on a large screen at the front of the room, there are old movie clips playing. These are mostly campy, silly clips from science fiction films of the 1950s. The special effects in these clips are a riot -- lots of robots that look they're covered in aluminum foil and that kind of thing. My kids get a big kick out of these.

The 50s Prime Time Cafe is designed to look like a typical American kitchen of the 1950s. Each table has a black-and-white TV running clips from shows like I Love Lucy. The servers treat you like family, really. They will call themselves "Mom" or "brother." A "Mom" server will scold you for putting your elbows on the table. We were once there when my husband forgot to say "thank you" for something. "Mom" made him stand in the corner. This is all done in good fun and it can be really funny if you play along with it. The food is American comfort food like mac 'n cheese and meatloaf. Instead of a dessert menu, the dessert choices (like apple pie) are presented to you on a View Master. Lots of fun!
