Love the panel! Arriving WDW in 3 wks! So excited to have free dining plan but I don't like to order entrees at meals- too much food! Can I use the dining plan and just order an appetizer and dessert? Thanks for your help. Our 17trip to Disney!

    Hi Natalie,

Wow, I bet you're really excited since your next Disney vacation is right around the corner! I don't know about you, but those last few weeks before my Disney vacations seem to creep by soooo slowly.

Great question about the Disney Dining Plan. My advice would be to ask the cast member who will be serving you to see if that would be okay to do. I don't recall seeing any official policies that said you can't substitute an appetizer for an entree at a table-service restaurant, so it certainly couldn't hurt to ask.

I think it might be a harder sale to make if you instead wanted to substitute an appetizer for a dessert. Since appetizers sometimes end up costing more than desserts, I think that could be an issue. However, your situation seems more reasonable since entrees almost always cost more than appetizers.

Here's a little tip from your buddy Derek:

Even though my daughter is only 4, she loves to order off of the adult menu. (She's a bone fide foodie!)

The problem is that she can never finish an entire entree and I don't like to waste food. Since we don't have quick and easy access to a refrigerator when we're touring around the theme parks, I don't like to ask for doggie bags.

Instead, what I'll do is ask if the chef would be willing to prepare a half-portion of the entree for her. I'll sweeten the deal and say that I'll pay full price, but I let them know that I'm asking because I know we'll end up wasting food if we serve her the normal portion.

In some instances, half-portions aren't feasible, but it's definitely worth trying.

I hope that helps! Please feel free to write back if you should have any additional questions and I'll be happy to help in any way that I can.

    Best regards,
