I would love for my daughter and I to take part in some kind of educational animal program or encounter while we are in WDW this coming January. Is there anything available to inspire a highly intelligent and curious, nature loving, first grader?

    Hi Tobi-Dawne!

Walt Disney World is a place where imagination and fantasy become apart of the everyday, but it is also a place where there is wealth of educational opportunities for the young and young at heart!

Animal Kingdom is has several activities that would be perfect for your daughter's young curious mind. Guests can become an official Wilderness Explorer just like Russell in Disney's Pixar's movie Up!,one of my favorites. ;-)Guests can enroll and receive their official handbook on the bridge headed into Discovery island. The handbook has 31 different badges your little explorer can earn and includes a map where to find each activity. The cast members where excellent at engaging my children with each activity and where a wealth of knowledge. My children just participated and I had a really hard time leaving Animal Kingdom!

Animal Kingdom is also home to Rafiki's Planet Watch, where guests can take the Wildlife Express Train to an engaging area that consists for hands on opportunities with the animals,an insiders look at research and care facilities and a information on ways you can help with conservation. This area can often be overlooked, but has numerous opportunities for educational enrichment.

Epcot is without a doubt what fun learning is all about, you will definitely want to check out the Behind the Seeds Tour.Guests get to go behind the scenes of Disney's Living With The Land attraction to find out about new an innovative ways growing and harvesting plants, get an up close look at fish farming and alligators as well.

As your daughter gets older,I definitely recommend checking out Disney's Educational Youth Series which offers individual enrollment as well as home school and group enrollment. There is a huge variety of classes to nurture your young one's mind ranging from the sciences to the arts.

I hope this was helpful and please let me know if you have anymore questions!

    Happy Learning!
