Hi Lori!  I am a new mom to a wonderful 8 month old boy. I am interested in doing the Dopey challenge, but I am having a hard time getting back to where I was. Any advise? I have been running a lot, but still am having trouble.

    Hi Carissa!

Congratulations on your little bundle of joy!  I have two boys and can say that they are the best!  (yes, I know that I am biased!)

You are doing great!  It took me a good 4 years to get myself moving again after my second son was born.  But, I can tell you that doing that for myself made me a better mother, and I am sure you feel the same way.  Exercising is as good for our minds as it is for our bodies!

My biggest advice would be to find a workout buddy.  Having someone to hold you accountable is essential.  It also makes it fun.  I always say my running buddies are not just my friends, but also my therapists:)  It also helps me to sit down and write out my race schedule, goals, and training plans.  Then, I have concrete evidence of what I am supposed to be doing daily.  I don't always get every single day's training in, but I do the best I can, and it's nice to see the progress.  I can also see what is working and what is not.

Signing up for a race is also great motivation.  Putting it on your calendar and paying money for something invests you enough that you are more likely to train for it and stay on track.

I hope this tips help!  Be sure to give yourself a break though.  Having a baby is hard on your body and also makes you a little sleep-deprived for while.  You may not start out being as fast as you were, but you will get there!  Just be sure to have fun!  Please let me know if you have any other questions.
