We are looking to plan a trip late Aug or Early Sept. I have a 3.5 and 2yo. Is it typically hot during this time and how are the crowds? Thank you!

Hi Nicole! Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

Traveling with a three and a half year old and a two year old can be so fun but also a bit of a challenge! Trying to keep them on their normal schedule (we don’t dare miss nap) while trying to take in all of the magic, and keeping them cool and entertained is sometimes a lot of hard work! But seeing the smiles on their faces when Mickey Mouse waves to them is priceless!

I have found that traveling to the Walt Disney World Resort in late August or early September is a great time to travel as long as you avoid Labor Day Weekend. It appears to me that crowd levels drop during this time as a lot of the southern kids go back to school in early August. There are some really great crowd predictor’s out there (such as touring plans) that I often use to plan my vacations.

Now the one thing that you should note is that traveling during this time of year is typically HOT. We do try to plan our days accordingly so that we avoid being in the parks during the hottest times of the day. We generally try to spend our morning in the theme parks, we head back to our hotel for a swim in the pool and a nap, and then we go back to the parks for some nighttime fun! My kids tend to love to spend a lot of their time at the pool, or splashing around at the Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station in Magic Kingdom Park. We also love to visit Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park. I think it is the best water park for young kids. My kids would spend the whole vacation here if I would let them!

My best advice is that if you do plan on traveling during the hot late summer months, just make sure to plan accordingly and listen to your kids cues. “Mother knows best!”
