dining with Minnie at Cape May

Hello! We are looking to plan a trip to Disney world Dec 2019. We will have a almost 5 year old and the twins will be 3 1/2. We will be there for 12 days. This might be our only trip. How many days per park and how many character meals should I plan?

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Danielle! I have kids around the same age, so I’ll give you a peek at how we spend our days at the parks!

We always spend our arrival day at our Resort. Arriving early, we grab lunch from the Quick-Service restaurant as we step off Disney’s Magical Express. The many activities each Resort offers allows us to start our vacation un-rushed, in exploratory mode on the playground or at Movies Under the Stars at night. For the remainder of the trip, we spend the most of our time at Magic Kingdom, with 1 day each at Epcot, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. If you arrive after the opening of Toy Story Land, you may want to explore those new attractions with your kids, or check out the many shows this park offers. There are over 80 attractions at Walt Disney World Resort for your preschoolers to explore, including classics like Dumbo, Peter Pan’s Flight and It’s A Small World. You may find new favorites like my preschool daughter did last month on Goofy’s Barnstormer, a first roller coaster that lets smaller kids dip their toes into the thrill world without too much at stake. You can also treat your family to a morning at the Resort pool, followed by lunch and taking Disney Springs by storm in the afternoon for it’s wide array of dining options, the largest Disney Store in the World and live music. If your kids like sports, trying out the Winter Summerland Mini Golf Course may be another fun afternoon option.

I will recommend that you look into each character meal and try not to “repeat” characters. This adds spice and excitement to the table service without getting burnt out. My kids like to try about 3 character meals per trip, with more than that feeling excessive. Please return for more planning advice. I’ll see ya real soon! ~ Lindsey P.
