looking for some help in planning a 2.5 day trip with my 1.5 y to WDW next month. Thinking about AK and MK. Any suggestions of what to see that is age appropriate and resources to help me plan? Also where should we eat?? Thanks

    Hi Kim!

I'm a huge advocate for giving infants/toddlers/preschoolers the opportunity to experience Walt Disney World. Not only can they have some amazing sensory experiences, but also you as a parent will walk away with so many wonderful memories.

With respect to your time in the Magic Kingdom and Disney's Animal Kingdom, my advice is to avoid a regimented schedule. At that age, children are very transparent with their emotions. So, if you see your child having a joyous reaction to something you encounter in the theme parks, a loose schedule will allow for plenty of time to savor those spontaneous experiences. (The photos I took from those spontaneous experiences with my children are my favorite photos of all!)

With respect to actual attractions, both of my children never had a problem with any of the attractions we took them on. If you have questions or concerns about any of the show elements used in a particular attraction (e.g. light levels, loud sounds, etc.), you can always ask one of the cast members stationed outside of the attraction for a heads-up on what to expect.

As far as eating goes, there’s only one restaurant in Walt Disney World that I wouldn't recommend bringing young children to - Victoria & Albert's in Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. That being said, I wouldn't shy away from any other restaurant that you and your family would like to experience.

Here's a little tip from your buddy Derek:

When booking dining reservations, snag the earliest seatings so you can minimize wait times and beat the rush.

I hope that helps to get the party started. My boss Mickey Mouse likes me to keep a reasonable length to each message, but if you write me back, I'd love to share more tips!

    Best regards,

    Derek
