How long is typical wait time for an attraction with fast pass? We are going week of NYE, visiting Magic Kingdom on NYE day and I am trying to plan fast passes but not understanding how they work.

    Hi there, Ashley!

I cannot recommend enough that a trip to Walt Disney World during a busy holiday period has to be accomplished using FastPass+. While it won't eliminate all of the wait time in lines, especially during this time of the year, but it will help minimize your wait times significantly.

The way it works is that if you are a Walt Disney World resort hotel guest, you can make the FastPass+ selections up to 60 days in advance - or 30 days if you are staying off property. You can choose up to three per day at the park you plan on visiting, and you can add more at the park once you've used them. You will get a one hour block of time during which you can arrive to use your pass - and when you select your passes, you can select that block of time.

Now, for the lines. Based on the posted wait time in the stand-by line, you can expect to wait much less. How much less is a bit imprecise. I would say the longest I have ever waited in a FastPass+ line was 30 minutes, and that was at a brand new attraction. On New Year's Eve, when the park is going to be very busy, you may find a wait that long, but keep in mind, it will be much shorter than the posted wait time for the stand-by guests.

I try not to book my FastPass+ times back to back, just in case you are running late or wanting to stop in between. Space them out so you have some time for a break.

    Have an awesome visit, Ashley!
