What do the letters EPCOT stand for?

    Hi Marceline,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Your question instantly excites the Disney historian in me. I love to discuss the history of Disney Parks with others, and Epcot is one of my favorite parks at the Walt Disney World Resort.

When Epcot park opened in 1982 was called EPCOT Center. EPCOT was an acronym created by Walt Disney himself in 1966. It stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. Walt wanted to build a community of tomorrow that would never be completed – a place where people could live and work – to demonstrate and introduce new ideas and systems. If you are interested in learning more, D23, the official Disney fan club, has a great overview of EPCOT on D23.com.

Please let me know if I can answer any other questions for you or help you with planning a visit to Walt Disney World Resort.

    Have a magical day!
