We are leaving Wednesday for Disney World and my sister broke a bone in her foot any suggestions on how to make the trip better for her, she planned it for our family of 10 and now I am afraid she is going to miserable the whole time

Hi Kathy, and welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. I’m so sorry to hear about your sister’s broken foot, and I love that you want to make sure she enjoys the trip after all the planning she's done.

I visited Walt Disney World three times this year with a broken foot, so I’ve got some pro tips for your sister. Firstly, I encourage her to rent an Electric Conveyance Vehicle (ECV) or wheelchair for your park days. Disney trips involve so much walking, and she will surely experience swelling from standing in lines and being on her feet. Also, the theme parks are very busy during the holiday season, and I don’t want her to have to worry about her foot being stepped on or tripped over.

You may want to stop at Guest Relations and ask about Disney’s Disability Access Service. This service allows eligible Guests who are unable to stand in long lines to wait in an alternate location and return at an assigned time to enjoy the attraction.

If she finds herself in a lot of pain, your sister should stop at thefirst aid stations located in each theme park.

I highly recommend taking a break mid-day to rest, ice, and elevate the foot. I traveled with resealable bags, which I would fill with ice from my resort’s ice machine and apply to my foot while resting on the bed in our room. Make sure she packs ibuprofen to help with any pain and swelling.

Kathy, I don’t regret any of my broken-footed Walt Disney World visits this year, and if your sister takes good care of her foot, I bet she will have no problem enjoying every minute of your family vacation.

Wishing your sister a speedy recovery, and all of you a magical vacation,
    Robyn
