    Hi "Moms"! We are leaving for our 8 day WDW trip on 8/4/11. I know it will be very hot and am wondering exactly how hot? Do you have recommendations other than shorts and s/s shirts as to what bring that would make the trip more comfortable?

    Hi Ann,

    I'm no meteorologist, but its typically pretty hot in August in Orlando. Average high temperature is 91.5 with an average low temperature 73.4. Its also pretty humid.  Its very common to get an afternoon thundershower too.  But it usually blows over pretty quickly and cools the temperature down which makes for some nice evenings.  The average precipitation in August is 6.78 inches.

    Don't let the heat get you down - there are ways to stay cool. Here are some suggestions:

    * Buy a Frogg Togg (available at most sporting goods stores) & keep it around your neck or head - I cut mine in 1/2 to get double the use of it. I take a Ziploc to put it in when I'm not using it.
    * Get a misty fan - available in the parks if you don't already have one.
    * Wear light colored clothing.
    * Use a visor instead of a hat (they're cooler in the heat).
    * If you have kids you'll be pushing in strollers:
            * Purchase a stroller fan for them (bring extra batteries - they eat them like crazy).
            * Put a light colored towel over the canopy of your stroller to reflect the sun's rays.
    * Drink lots of water - don't get dehydrated.
    * Seek out attractions where you can spend some time in the air conditioning. Innoventions at Epcot is a great place to do this.
    * If you're staying on property, take advantage of morning & evening Extra Magic Hours when temperatures are more pleasant.
    * If anyone starts to feel ill, there are First Aid Stations located in each theme park.
    * When the temperatures get too hot, go back to your resort to go for a swim & cool off.  You can go back to the parks after dinner when it is cooler.
    * Visit one of the water parks.

    Wishing you many magical memories :-) Allison
