I am a large woman-- over 275lbs, are there any weight restrictions or any rides I can't ride? My mom, my two adult children and I plan to visit in May. I don't want to be refused a ride or fun due to my weight. Should I be concerned?

    Holly,

We recently traveled with my husband's uncle and I was very concerned about his ability to ride also, so I did a lot of research.

First, I highly recommend the Passporter Open Mouse book.  It's all about Disney for special needs, be it wheelchair access, food allergies, traveling while pregnant, or as they call it visiting 'at large'.  I think you'll find lots of helpful information in there.  Also, if you visit www.passporter.com they have forums where you can read and ask questions.  It was especially helpful to me to read the thread about others' experiences.  Many of my questions were answered without me ever having to ask.

From my own experience/observation, there were some rides that were a little uncomfortable for him to ride but none were impossible (and he is well over 300 pounds).  Space Mountain was a bit difficult for him to get out of as the cars ride low, but it wasn't that hard and still definitely worth doing.  On a few rides (like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad) the cars were smaller so he rode in a seat alone instead of with another person.  Shows in a theater were sometimes a bit confining - the armrests on the seat tend to hit in the wrong spot.  Generally sitting down sideways and then turning to squeeze back in would do the trick.  Not the most comfortable thing in the world, but not that bad.  There was nothing that he was prohibited from doing, and he did ride and enjoy everything.

Turnstiles are the biggest thing that may possibly present a challenge.  Some are narrow and harder to squeeze through.  If that appears to be the case for you then just ask the Cast Member to let you through the gate - they do this frequently.  If a seatbelt is an issue anywhere then the cast members will also be happy to provide you with an extension to lengthen it - again, this is very common.

Hope that helps.  Have a great trip!
