I know this ? is subjective but in your opinion should I have a detailed touring plan when visiting the parks or just go with the flow? I see that you do a lot of planning for family and friends and would appreciate your input>

    Hi Kay!

First of all, thank you so much for your question!  Your question is absolutely subjective, so I'll try to take a couple of different approaches to it.

I would suggest that if your time is extremely limited, going during a peak time, or you are traveling with older kids, then I would suggest a detailed touring plan.  I'd also suggest that the children are part of the planning process as well.  Their input is very important in the planning process.  This will help you maximize your precious little time in the parks.

If you have more time and are traveling during an 'off peak' time (especially with little ones), I'd say take it easy and go with the flow.  Does that mean that there will be little to no preparation on your part?--absolutely NOT!  You'll still need to make dining reservations, and get yourself and your family familiar with the attractions they 'must do' as well as any other activities you'll want to check out while there.  With little ones you'll need more flexibility and wiggle-room for unplanned things like naps, meltdowns, diaper explosions, etc.  Trying to keep them on their daily schedule, PLUS keeping on a detailed plan may prove to be too much additional stress for Mom and Dad.

Before each of our trips, I sit down with my boys (who are old enough to have an opinion) and talk about places to eat, things they want to do, etc.  This helps me plan (preliminarily) what our days are going to look like.  We always watch the Disney Parks Vacation Planning DVD to help refresh our memories as well.

Have a magical vacation and good luck planning!
