I know about the no costumes for adults rule in the parks , but my daughter is 12 and still loves wearing Disney costumes to the parks.at What age does the costume rule start? Also, I know little about "the pirates league " and my daughter want

    Hi Claudia,

The unofficial costumes-in-the-park cutoff age is 12, but I've never seen a hard age rule for this published anywhere, nor is anyone checking age IDs for kids in the parks. The real thing to pay attention to is the intent of the rule. Disney is trying to maintain fun for children and also not have any guest come to the park looking to much like a "real" character, thus confusing other guests.

My own daughters are young teens. When they were 12, they had some friends who were late bloomers and still could pass for nine or ten. These girls would have been fine in costume in the parks. They had other friends who at age 12 could have passed for 16 or 17. If those girls had come to the parks in tiaras and ball gowns, they would likely have been asked to change.

The final say goes to the cast members at the park gates, but for planning purposes use your best judgement about your daughter's development and appearance. If you feel that she looks too old for full costume dress up, you can still incorporate some elements of play into her park attire. For example, I have several adult friends who regularly come to the parks wearing a boa or tiara. These costume elements are fine as long as it's not full attire.

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know what else we can do to help.
