I have knee issues where I occasionally need to use a cane due to my knee buckling while walking, I do not need it all of the time only when I start having issues. Do I need to do anything in regards to bringing it into the parks? It would be a wood cane

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Jose! It’s nice to hear from you again.

I’m delighted to confirm that you’ll be welcome to bring your cane with you to Walt Disney World Resort. There is so much walking involved in a Walt Disney World vacation, and I definitely encourage you to bring it with you just in case you need it. I recommend taking a quick look at the Park Rules just to ensure that any items you bring with you on your Disney Day are allowed, but a wooden cane should not cause any issues.

Jose, I’ve visited Walt Disney World with my cane-using dad, and he is a true professional at using his cane around the theme parks. You might find it helpful to look at this information for Guests with mobility disabilities; while it doesn’t sound like you’ll be using an ECV or wheelchair, it’s good to know which attractions require transfer, as attractions with moving walkways or those where you enter a boat can be more of a challenge to board with knee issues. You can always check with a Cast Member at the attraction if you’re not sure about boarding; they will be able to assist you. If standing for long periods of time causes knee issues, Disney’s Disability Access Service may be helpful, so take a look at those details too.

Take good care, Jose, and be sure to stop and rest your knee when you need to. There are so many fantastic shows at Walt Disney World, and they are a great chance to rest, relax, and take in some magic. Some of my favorites are For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration (it’s hilarious), Festival of the Lion King, and Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room (pro tip: pick up a Dole Whip from Aloha Isle and bring it into the show).

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
    Robyn
